little screechy

this project in progress,  codenamed “little screechy,” represents my nameless numberless revenge against the cruel flat world of the clocks.  it is a bent fm squawkbox i’ve been building out of the remains of my alarm clock radio.

it no longer displays the time, or makes that obnoxious “WAKE THE FUCK UP” sound.  nor does anything resembling a radio station come out of the circuit anymore.  it’s now a kind of “drone” instrument, that releases a whole plethora of squeals and screeches and growls and hums.

here’s a demo clip i took last week, of little screechy, thru a simple delay :

the two pots on the plexiglass front panel adjust the pitch and timbre of the sound.  the matrix of thumbtacks are body contacts which map directly via ribbon cable to different glitch points on the circuit, allowing interaction with the sound by touch.

much work to do going forward.  i’m working out a 40106 oscillator for modulating the circuit at the moment.  will post updates as they happen!
